Official Cooperation with Text+

The Text Database and Dictionary of Classic Mayan has recently been selected as an official cooperation partner of Text+ – the national research infrastructure for text- and language-based research data in the humanities, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Text+ seeks to ensure the accessibility, interoperability, and long-term preservation of digital text resources, including scholarly editions, collections, and lexical data. Within this partnership, TWKM will implement the IDIOM+ project, initiated and led by Dr. Christian Prager, to develop a dedicated API interface to Text+ in 2026. This interface will enable the seamless integration of Classic Mayan inscriptions, linguistic annotations, and lexical data into the federated Text+ environment. The cooperation project IDIOM+ is funded by Text+ as part of its 2025 call for collaborative projects. This collaboration marks an important step toward building a sustainable digital research infrastructure and advancing the inclusion of non-European writing systems within international humanities data networks.

Project Description
The project "Digital Epigraphy - Maya Hieroglyphs in Text+" (in short IDIOM+) opens up a previously underrepresented corpus on the writing and language culture of the Classic Maya. The project integrates research data from the Text Database and Dictionary of Classic Mayan (TWKM) into the Text+ infrastructure. An FCS-compatible API connects RDF metadata, TEI/XML-encoded inscriptions, and JSON-based linguistic data in a searchable, semantically enriched structure, accessible via SRU/SRW. IDIOM+ is funded by Text+ as part of its 2025 call for collaborative projects to start in 2026. Documenting this cultural heritage within an open infrastructure, the project strengthens Text+ as a platform for cultural diversity and knowledge equity, while advancing the digital integration of complex historical writing systems and expanding the linguistic and interdisciplinary reach of Text+.
